Special Issue Editors

Prof. Dr. Maria Monti

CEINGE-Biotecnologie Avanzate, University of Naples Federico II, Via Gaetano Salvatore, 486 – 80145 Napoli, Italy
Interests: The scientific activity of Prof. Maria Monti has always addressed the structural characterization of proteins and glycoproteins using classical protein chemistry procedures in combination with advanced biomolecular mass spectrometric methodologies, especially studies focused on protein folding, characterization of post-translational modifications, including assignment of S-S bridges, identification of glycosylation and S-glutathionylation sites, and analysis of glycoforms of glycoproteins. She is also interested in the investigation of the surface topology and the analysis of conformational changes in proteins by combining limited proteolysis and selective chemical modifications experiments with advanced mass spectrometric methodologies. This procedure was employed for the analysis of protein–protein and protein–DNA complexes and then extended to the investigation of molecular mechanisms involved in fibril formation from amyloidogenic proteins. More recently, Prof. Monti’s scientific activity has focused on proteomics studies on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of complex biological processes such as signal transduction pathways and regulation of gene transcription both in physiological and pathological conditions. The biological functions exerted in vivo by a specific protein are investigated by the identification of its protein partners (interactome investigation), while the alteration in proteome profiles of samples differently treated is unraveled by differential proteomics approaches

Dr. Ilaria Iacobucci

CEINGE-Biotecnologie Avanzate, University of Naples Federico II, Via Gaetano Salvatore, 486 – 80145 Napoli, Italy
Interests: Ms. Iacobucci’s research mainly focuses on the investigation of protein networks and differential protein expression to clarify cellular pathways in physiological as well as pathological conditions by functional and differential proteomics approaches applied to different scientific problems. She also studies in vitro protein–protein and protein–ligand complexes combining biochemical procedures and mass spectrometry techniques. She is also focused on systems biology approaches using bioinformatic tools for the analysis of proteomic data

As Guest Editors, we cordially invite you to submit a manuscript for consideration and possible publication in a special issue on “Functional Proteomics in the Investigation of Protein-Protein Interactions”. This Special Issue will be published in Applied Sciences (http://www.mdpi.com/journal/applsci ), an open access journal that covers all aspects of applied natural sciences. Applied Sciences (IF: 2.474) is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science), Scopus, Inspec (IET) and other databases.

Potential topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:

  • protein–protein interaction proteomics
  • protein networks
  • biomolecular mass spectrometry applications

The deadline for manuscript submission is “10 October 2021”. Should this be of interest, you may send your manuscript now or up until the deadline. We also encourage authors to send a short abstract or tentative title to Editor (Joseph.Liu@mdpi.com) in advance. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Applied Sciences is one of MDPI’s open access journals (indexed in Web of Science, current Impact Factor 2.474). The Article Processing Charges (APC) are 2000 CHF per accepted paper. You may be entitled to a discount if you have previously received a discount code or if your institute is participating in the MDPI Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP), for more information see: http://www.mdpi.com/about/ioap.
Besides, a special discount was reserved exclusively for all ItPA members. If you are willing to submit your manuscript before the end of July, we could offer up to 20% discount (400 CHF) as ‘Early Bird Discount’. If you submit before the end of August, 15% discount. If September, 10% discount.

Benefits of publishing in Applied Sciences: 1. Open access and high visibility: unlimited access, broad database coverage, various promotional activities and academic event presentations; 2. Rapid turn-around: 17 days from submission to first decision.
